Owl Goingback The town of Blackwater, on the banks of the Wekiva River in central Florida, was founded in the early 1800s by Mansa Du Paul: an escaped slave and powerful voodoo priest, with a fondness for eating the flesh of small children. His evilness was absolute; his followers were terrified of him; all who knew of him feared him. But even so, the suspicious disappearance of several children from a neighboring village of Seminole Indians prompted the Indians to attack and kill Mansa, cutting the voodoo priest's body into tiny pieces and dispersing them into the murky waters of a backwater lagoon. But Mansa's spirit was far too powerful to be destroyed, and, his spirit lurking in the lagoon, the voodoo priest still waits for the day that he can return again in the flesh. More than 150 years later, Robert and Janet Patterson, and their ten-year-old daughter Krissy, travel to Florida to spend a week fishing and hiking at Blackwater Fish Camp—just outside of the original village of Blackwater. But their plans for a relaxing vacation start to fall apart from the moment that Robert Patterson picks up a strange decorative wooden staff standing near the water's edge, that when touched, sends out a strange tingling sensation. A modern Seminole Indian named Jimmy Cypress is the owner of the staff, which was meant to ward off the evil spirit of Mansa Du Paul; Cypress is the guardian of the lagoon, standing watch over the area to make sure that the voodoo priest never returns. But Cypress can feel that the evil is growing stronger. Soon he will have to do battle again with Mansa's spirit, and this time he isn't sure who'll win. And this time, not only will his own life be at stake, but the lives of an innocent family—and the soul of a young girl. Fans who relish a taut, frightening chiller will want t read this tale and know that they will not be going back to King or Koontz until they read award-winning Owl Goingback's previous works."—Harriet Klausner on Allscifi.com. "Goingback is a master of slow, steady suspense building. He takes the time to develop his characters and establish his atmosphere. In the proper amount of time, the threats he hints at become realized. His climaxes are fast-paced, white-knuckled explosions of action. He always delivers on his promises. You'll be assured a great time with anything he writes, and this novel will only enhance his reputation."—CEMETERY DANCE "EVILS WHISPERS is a fun, entertaining novel. It moves along at a quick pace and makes for a relatively fast, enjoyable read with a little blood and a few chills thrown in for good measure. Goingback is considered one of today's biggest talents in the field of horror."—PAINTED ROCK REVIEWS "The suspense of a Clive Barker or Dean Koontz."—KIRKUS REVIEWS
