Although at first suspicious and a bit self-conscious around him, she finally bonds with him through her magical talents and his rare ability to see where magic is in use. No spell hides from his special sight. When Ardhuin receives a letter from an old schoolmate requesting the presence of the Mage Guardian at the Imperial Palace, she realizes that she cannot hide her new identity any longer. Together, she and Dominic head to the capital.
At the palace, Ardhuin faces criticism and doubt of her abilities. Never has there been a Mage Guardian so young…or female. Despite these obstacles, she soon realizes that someone is trying to challenge the King. And she and Dominic realize that not all of the deaths of the Mage Guardians were of natural causes.
