In the mid-Second Century A.D., two twins are born, but before their first breaths have been taken, a prophecy has determined their fate. One is to be the future leader of her people, the other a destroyer. The order is given that the child prophesied to be the destroyer must be killed. The oldest twin, destined to become a leader, has received the tattoo of royalty upon her heel at birth, but it is she who is accidentally taken to be killed, while her sister, prophesied to become the destroyer of her people, is raised as royalty. But before the oldest can be killed, a raiding party attacks her would-be executioners and steals the baby, raising her as one of their own. Seventeen years later, each of the daughters has begun to show her true calling: One seeks power, regardless of its cost; the other values justice, and has become a strong, courageous young woman. With the fate of a nation hanging in the balance, one twin struggles to reclaim her destiny, as the other desperately endeavors to defy her prophesied fortune. Love, loss, conflict, and betrayal follow the protagonist as she seeks to discover her identity and, with it, her preordained role to become the ruler who will rescue and redeem her suffering people. As both women race to meet their destinies, the question hangs overhead: Will the prophecy come true? |
